Day 01: Airport / Medan –Tangkahan

Upon arrival at Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, you will be warmly welcomed by your local guide. From there, enjoy a scenic drive to Tangkahan, often called Sumatra’s “hidden paradise.” Along the way, you will pass through Stabat and Batang Serangan, with stunning views of lush countryside, rubber plantations, and traditional villages. Arrive in Tangkahan in the afternoon and check in to a simple yet comfortable eco-lodge nestled in the heart of the rainforest. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, soaking in the peaceful surroundings and natural beauty of this unique location.

Day 02: Tangkahan – Elephant Washing & River Safari – Bukit Lawang

Wake up to the sounds of the Tangkahan jungle and get ready for an unforgettable day of adventure in North Sumatra. After a short walk, you will arrive at the Tangkahan Elephant Camp, where you will meet the mahouts (elephant caretakers). Here, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Take part in the elephants’ morning bathing routine, helping the mahouts wash these gentle giants in the river..
  • Learn about elephant care and feeding, and even feed them yourself.

After this special experience, embark on a river tubing adventure. Float gently along the river, surrounded by lush tropical rainforest and serenaded by exotic birds. Along the way, stop at a waterfall to swim, enjoy a “natural shower,” sunbathe on the rocks, or simply relax. A picnic lunch by the river will be served. Optionally, you can take a detour to nearby natural hot springs for a relaxing break.

In the afternoon, walk back through a local village, with opportunities to interact with the residents and observe their daily life before returning to your lodge.

*Alternative option: Instead of the elephant program, you can enjoy a 3-hour guided trek through the Tangkahan rainforest, discovering remarkable flora and fauna, including Thomas leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, gibbons, tropical birds, and unique plants.
(Important: Elephant activities are not available on Fridays or during Idul Fitri holidays.)

Next, say goodbye to Tangkahan and embark on an unforgettable 4×4 adventure to Bukit Lawang, the famous gateway to Gunung Leuser National Park, home to Sumatran orangutans. Traveling along authentic jungle tracks, you will pass through spectacular landscapes and have the chance to observe rural life in North Sumatra. Along the way, several stops will enrich your journey:

  • A local plantation, where you can learn about the crops that sustain the region.
  • A village school, offering insight into the daily life of local children.
  • The exterior of a palm oil factory, one of Sumatra’s main industries.
  • Panoramic viewpoints to admire the jungle, valleys, and capture memorable photos.

By late afternoon, arrive in Bukit Lawang and check in at your riverside accommodation along the Bahorok River. Surrounded by the soothing sounds of flowing water and the rainforest, you’ll feel the magical atmosphere of the jungle, marking the beginning of a truly unique experience.

Day 03: Fullday Leuser National Park Tracking

After breakfast, set out on a guided trek of about 3 hours into Gunung Leuser National Park, a UNESCO-listed site. During the walk, observe:

  • Semi-wild orangutans in their natural habitat
  • Thomas leaf monkeys, macaques, gibbons, and other primates
  • An incredible range of biodiversity, including exotic birds, tropical butterflies, and medicinal plants

Your guide will share insights about the wildlife, flora, and the importance of conserving this unique ecosystem. After the trek, enjoy free time at the lodge to relax by the river or explore the nearby village.

Day 04: Kayaking On The River Landak Bukit Lawang – Medan

Kayaking in the Bukit Lawang Area. You will be transported by scooter to the Landak River, about one hour away. Before starting the kayaking trip, you will receive safety instructions, after which the excursion begins. The river is calm, allowing you to enjoy the surroundings and observe local wildlife. Various species of monkeys, toucans, and hornbills live in this area, and you may also spot many lizards along the riverbanks.

Around midday, you will stop for lunch and have time to cool off in the clear water. In the afternoon, the kayaking continues. The full excursion lasts approximately 4 to 5 hours. This activity is suitable for children from 6 years old, with children under 12 sharing a kayak with an adult.
